Brussels is truly honoured to have been chosen by the European Blues Union to host the 5th European Blues Challenge. This jubilee competition organized by the Brussels Blues Society in cooperation with the Brussels Capital Region will take place on March 13 and 14, 2015 at the Ancienne Belgique theatre.

On the opening night, March 12, Brussels will also showcase some of Belgiums finest Blues and Roots music artists. The opening concert at the Ancienne Belgique will feature Belgian representatives who performed at previous editions of the EBC: Hideaway, Howlin Bill (winner of the 1st EBC in Berlin) and Fred and the Healers, the latter act also celebrating their 20th anniversary on the night.

Fred and the Healers recently unleashed their 5th album HammerBeatMatic. The collection of 13 original songs of powerful seventiesinspired Blues-Rock featuring Killer riffs, hypnotic rhythms and memorable melodies was unanimously embraced by fans and critics alike. Live on stage the trio sound like a runaway train. Imagine Robert Johnson going electric, with a Telecaster tuned in open D, played through a Tube Screamer, backed by a rhythm section sounding like a cross between Hendrix Band of Gypsies and the Black Keysoh yeahand with some Freddie King-style guitar solos thrown inHaving already celebrated their 10th anniversary at the Ancienne Belgique back in 2004, Fred and his Healers will stage their 20th anniversary show in the same theatre promising a surprise-filled performance on the night!

Howlin Bill, the winner of the 2011 Blues Challenge in Berlin, plays mainly original songs with some carefully chosen covers thrown in the mix for good measure. The musical recipe a blend of Blues, Rock 'n' Roll, Boogie, and Rockabilly; Bill and his band travel the Blues Highway, but also dare to wander of the beaten path to explore little know back roads, visiting different styles of Rhythm N' Roots along their journey. These last 15 years, and 5 albums later ( a brand-new 6th album is scheduled for October 2014 release) Howlin Bill has toured incessantly and performed at most of the prestigious Blues Festivals around Europe. Six feet five tall barefooted Howlin Bill always delivers an exhilarating performance of pumping roots-based Blues and Rock, with lyrics about good women gone bad, booze (too much of it), worn-out shoes, and the trials and tribulations of romantic love in short, about real life as most people know it..

Hideaway celebrates its 29 anniversary in 2015! They have three studio albums and a live CD on their record. The group can look back on a long and adventurous history where they have played in almost every parish in the country. However, overseas is no stranger to the group. In the past, they have already played concerts in France, Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain, Canada and Sweden. In 2013, they represented the Belgian flag on the European Blues Challenge in Toulouse (Fr) They play all kinds of blues as the title on one of their cds suggests: Unable to label!
